Canadian is the County seat of Hemphill County and is known as the “Oasis of the High Plains”.
Canadian’s topography is unique because the area has mesas, hills, and beautiful foliage that attracts visitors from across Texas during the fall season.
Canadian has many outdoor activity areas for enjoyment. Two of the more popular choices are the golf course and swimming pool.
County created from the Bexar and Young districts in 1876 and organized in 1887; named for Republic of Texas Justice John Hemphill.
Hemphill County comprises 904 square miles of rolling plains and rugged terrain, broken by two major rivers and dozens of creeks.
The Economic Development Corporation of Canadian is a 501C-3 that is geared to bring prosperity and exceptional quality of place to the community through job creation, grant funding, business incubation/retention and entrepreneurship. We utilize a portion of the city of Canadian’s sales tax to fund our organization and projects. With a strong history of collaboration with the city of Canadian and Hemphill County, the EDC is a vital and effective resource for economic growth within our region.
